Line Reactors

A line reactor or motor choke is connected between the variable speed drive and the mains supply. Its main function is to reduce the harmonics caused by the DC link when "capacitors are topped up" quickly and for a short part of the mains cycle, causing high current peaks.

CNW 304 - EMC Filter and Line Reactor Combination

................................................................................

An EMC Filter is normally required for an inverter drive and a Line Reactor is used for preventing harmonics from being generated on the mains supply. The CNW 304 provides a neat solution by incorporating both of these components in one enclosure. This saves panel space and reduces installation and wiring time.

CNW 903 High-current line reactors

...............................................................................

Three-phase line reactors are used with switch-mode power supplies such as those used in variable-speed, frequency drives. They provide a number of useful power quality benefits. Harmonic currents are reduced and so is voltage distortion on the mains suppy, which is becoming a requirement for conformance with standards and permission for connection to the supply. Furthermore, they help to reduce damage caused by surges and provide ride-through storage during voltage sags. REO line reactors are exceptionally small and efficient which is achieved by careful selection of build materials, design experience and skillful construction. Therefore, much less panel space is required. There is also a choice of terminations and protection covers.
