POWER SUPPLIES - for use in cathodic corrosion protection applications

For many years REO has manufactured and developed power supplies for use in Cathodic Protection (CP) applications.

Remote monitoring, control and maintenance of CP plants is becoming more important as it allows cost effective and accurate measurement of the performance of a given installation at any time and without large survey costs. For these applications, REO has developed a specific solution.

The REOTRON SMP-CP is a robust electronic power supply based on the latest primary switch mode technology.

REOTRON TRPS-CP are robust transformer-rectifier (TR) power supply units. They are used all over the world in CP applications and provide exceptionally reliable and economical protection.

REOTRON MDZ2000 is a device used for controlling 6-pulse semiconductor rectifier circuits in conjunction with oil or air cooled transformers to provide low voltage/high current DC power. Again using the standard REO control schemes (keypad, analog, comms) voltage or current can be accurately controlled to ensure reliable regulation and easy integration.

    The REOTRON SMP power supplies are primary switched power supplies with galvanic separation from the input to the output. They can be used as voltage, current or power regulators.

    Operation
    The unit can be operated from an internal display, external control signals of 0…+10V, 0(4)…20mA or optionally by a fieldbus interface such as DeviceNet, ProfiBus, CanBus, EtherCAT, EtherNet/IP and ProfiNet protocols.

    Input devices
    The device input is designed for connection to a three-phase mains 3 x 400 V, 50/60 Hz. The compliance of EMC standards is guaranteed by an input-sided PFC-mains filter.

    Design
    The devices have a compact design in a 19 inch rackmount chassis and can be delivered as a installation ready control cabinet version or as a tabletop unit (lab version). The devices are air- or water-cooled.

    Connection
    The SMP‘s are connected via screw terminals and with cooper terminal buses at high output currents. Like all REO-products, the REOTRON SMP‘s are also available as customized versions.

    High range of performance
    The units can be combined to power supplies with higher ratings by connecting the units in series or parallel.

  • REOTRON MDZ

    The firing & control units MDZ have been designed for the control of current converter installations, e.g. in electroplating plants. They contain one controller each for current and vol-tage control. In the voltage control mode, the output voltage is kept constant at a predefined setpoint value by the internal control circuit. Therefore, changes in the load or in the mains supply have no effect on the output voltage.

    When operated in the current control mode, the output current is compared with the setpoint, and corrected accordingly. Hereby, the output voltage can increase to its maximum value. If the preset limits (Imax or Vmax) are exceeded, this is signaled by LEDs.

    If both control modes are used together, the controller with the lower setpoint always has priority. For example, with voltage control and subordinated current control, this means that the voltage controller is in command as long as the permissible current value is not exceeded. As soon as the current limit is reached, the current controller takes over. If the unit is to be operated purely as a voltage or current controller, the respective other setpoint must be set to the 10 VDC reference value.

    Intended for installation in a control cabinet, the unit is mounted in a compact aluminum housing. All electrical connections are made via plug-in screw terminals. The controls for adjusting the operating parameters are accessible on the front panel.

    The DC power supplies REOTRON of the series SMP-CP are primary switched power supplies with galvanically isolated variable output. The devices can be used as a voltage or current regulator or both combined.


    For monitoring of the protection values of the corrosion protection application and also the status of the power supply, the actual values of output current and output voltage are provided in form of a 4…20 mA signal and the units status is given in form of a digital signal. This allows easy remote monitoring or metering of the cp application.


    The REOTRON SMP-CP can be controlled from a true zero of voltage or current (very important for corrosion protection applications) up to the maximum rated values using a wide variety of control options, for example, the user can avail the integral keypad, fit external potentiometers or use analog control signals (0 - 10 VDC, 0 – 20 mA) or a variety of industrial fieldbus interfaces (Profibus, CAN, DeviceNet or EtherCat, EtherNet/IP, ProfiNet).
